Mice are typically not the thing you think of when it comes to beer, but when you stop to think that beer is made from barley, and other grains, it stands to reason that mice have been poking their noses in along the supply chain somewhere.

In Victoria, one of our owners (John) was brought up on a farm that historically was focused on wool, cropping grain to store through the poorer months to keep the sheep healthy, turning off the highest quality wool. These little farms would build a mouse proof
shed to store the grain in.

In something that exemplifies Australian agriculture, and to the credit of the builders, a mouse was never sighted in this shed, but it was chock-a-block full of rats. The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry, to quote Robert Burns 1785 poem “To a Mouse”!

Mouse Proof was born as a tongue in cheek herald to those that toil the land.
